Revised Renown Manual

The Renown beta manual has undergone a slight, but important, revision. The new version ought to have RENOWN BETA MANUAL, Rev 2 on the front page. Please download the new version or, if you don’t want to reprint the entire manual, you can manually make the changes as follows:

Delete the following line on page 4 under Seeds of a Conspiracy: “The Successor is the First Conspirator to Scheme during a Conspiracy.”
Delete the following line on page 8 under Fall of a Regime: “Conspirators each declare their highest Capital–Heroic or Villainous.”

Both of those rules are from an earlier edition of the rules and no longer apply. Thanks!

Renown Beta Launched

The Renown Beta manual was released today is available for download. Additionally, some thoughts on creating unofficial decks are available on PJ’s Pedia, our fledgling wiki.

Please feel free to join PJ’s Beta Team and keep abreast of Renown’s testing and new developments.

Call for Renown Testers

The official call has gone out for testers of our card game, Renown! To qualify, you need to meet/agree to the following requirements:

Live in the continental US. In the interest of cost and time, I cannot accept official international beta testers, sorry.
Be able to play at least three extended games of Renown with 3 to 6 people over a period of four weeks this summer.
Coax, encourage, browbeat and threaten your players into filling out an online survey about their play experience.
Be willing to ship the game box (we’ll be paying postage) to the next tester in a timely fashion.

Testers will receive the following, as a way of saying thanks:

Their name in the credits of the final manual.
A free copy of the final game, including card deck, manual and favor markers.

An overview of Renown’s gameplay can be found on my blog, where you can comment to be included in a raffle to win the final game onces it’s produced. You can also volunteer for testing by commenting on that thread, of via our contact form.

Want to Be a Beta Tester?!

By the end of the month, we’ll be asking for volunteers to test our upcoming card game, Renown! After a long design hiatus, we’ve found what we hope is the perfect format to allow us to inexpensively publish the cards ourselves and moved the project back onto a front burner (our stove has a great many front burners).

So many irons in the fire. So little time. But I’m slowly making headway. By GDC this year, the site will have content. Honest!

Here we go, folks! By the time the new year rolls in, PJ’s Attic will fully reflect its new status as the “design space” for Zakelro’s participatory storytelling efforts. Bear with us as we slowly integrate new site elements!

We’re Not Dead!

I know that PJ’s Attic has seemed a bit stagnant lately and for that I apologize. We’re in the process of assessing new web hosts, updating the new theme to work with Wordpress 2.3, planning and executing an excursion to our future home city, Portland, dealing with unexpected contract work (hooray for unexpected contract work!), and doing our best to align our various waterfowl.

But soon (relatively speaking) we should have the Attic updated to reflect our new, more experimental, approach to fully participatory storytelling. Thanks for staying tuned!
